Why GCSE RE should be optional | remusingscom

There was clear evidence that the old GCSE wasn’t working.  I put my hands up to say that we were teaching to the test, trying to encourage most of the cohort, a year early in Year 10, in an hour a week to take the exam, by repeating a few quotes and key words!  A huge challenge for the RE community has been the new GCSE reforms this year. How were we going to teach this more rigorous and traditional course to the whole cohort if there was no additional curriculum time coming our way?
