It has been a difficult time in the public sector. From junior doctors protests over new contracts, teacher shortages in schools, forced academisation, rows over benefits for the disabled, and the latest emotional ‘they’re ruining our NHS’ viral Facebook status from a nurse. Recently I have been reflecting a lot on my status as a ‘public servant.’ What exactly does that mean and what sort of state are we in?

Obviously I am aware that we are in financially difficult times and that the country needs to save money. The economic arguments regarding austerity are complex and I am not qualified…
